My Daughter Loves the Many Prom Dresses She Found Online

My daughter was in search for some very nice prom dresses for her prom and thought it would be a mighty fine idea to find them online. I thought it would take her a while to find needed dress for prom, but it did not take her long at all. Within twenty minutes, she was able to find the online store that allowed her to check out the lovely dresses that it had in stock. She was amazed by the many dresses that were available and made her decision on which one would be ideal for her. She is very happy with her decision and could not wait for prom. She went to prom and had a very nice time. After she returned home, she told me that everyone loved her dress. I am completely happy that her prom happened to turn out very well for her. She is so happy to have experienced a wonderful prom.

Getting in Touch with my Pretty Side

Raised in a deeply conservative fundamentalist Christian family, we were not permitted to wear things like cocktail dresses, prom dresses, blue jeans, or anything revealing at all. In fact, many of the more pious girls claimed to be relieved that they were “spared” such things. I get that; I get the way that being fashion-oriented or experiencing peer pressure to reveal one’s body can be oppressive. On the other hand, there’s a delight and a sense of personal pride in dolling up, and I longed for it. For every fundamentalist teen that I knew (back in the day) who was happy to be free of the pressure to look “fancy,” there were two or three huddling in corners fantasizing about what a prom might be like. Most of us were home schooled in home school collectives, so there wasn’t going to be a prom, but we imagined the dancing, the glamorous gowns, the shiny disco balls on some gym floor like we’d seen in the movies we weren’t supposed to watch, and we were enthralled.
